Bondi Beach Home To Winter Magic Festival, by Greg Tingle - 26th June 2011

Bondi Beach may be enjoying a cold snap this winter, but the reception is warm with the Winter Magic Festival sneaking up on us.

It's the second year for what is now an annual Winter Magic Festival. The promenade is getting lights, a tidy up and even the ice-skating rink is coming back. Then there's surf flicks, whale and dolphin watching, fashion events, food and drinks on offer and loads more. The fest will go from 3 months and Bondi Beach will be the key beach suburb showcased.

Let's have a look at what's coming up...

Bergstation Ice Skating Rink...

Have a skate on one of the biggest ice rinks you will find in Australia. Then grab a drink, head down to the beach to catch a wave, or just chill. Bondi Beach, 12 noon – 10pm, June 30 – July 17. $20 for adults and $15 for kids. Goes for 1 hour. You will have to pay to hire the skates.

Whale Festival...

Dr Michelle Blewitt of Marine Mammal Research will be on hand for a for a free whale-watching walk. You will likely see dolphins also. Check out the Marine Discovery Centre, where you will see a 15m inflatable Humpback named Venus. Entertaining and educational. Marine Discovery Centre, Bondi Pavilion, Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach. 10am – 3pm, July 3. Whale-watching walk will depart from the Marine Discovery Centre, 1.30pm, July 3. Free.

Surf Films...

Check out surf films via Beach Road Hotel. Every Wednesday throughout July. Beach Road Hotel, 71 Beach Road, Bondi.

Fashion...

Models will do their thing in Hall Street. Bondi Beach, 11am - 4pm, July 16 -17. Free.
